Protecting Displaced Women and Girls from Trafficking
The Women’s Commission is exploring the connection between trafficking and displacement, a relatively new area of research, and how governmental policies aimed at reducing trafficking can put displaced women and girls at higher risk for trafficking. The Women’s Commission is now developing guidelines for government policy and for field practitioners on rights-based legislation and interventions for survivors—guidelines that will better protect displaced women and girls from trafficking.
The Women’s Commission found connections between trafficking and displacement in the four areas where it conducted research. These four ground-breaking reports will be the basis for developing guidelines for government policy and for field practitioners on rights-based legislation and interventions for victims that better protect displaced women and girls from trafficking.

The Protection Program works with the Women’s Commission’s advocacy program in Washington, D.C., to promote appropriate legislation that better protects displaced women and girls from trafficking and provides safety and security for those who had previously been trafficked through both national policies and international programs.
