Consultant – Livelihoods Report Editor
Women’s Commission for Refugee Women and Children
BACKGROUND:
The Women’s Commission for Refugee Women and Children works to improve the lives and defend the rights of refugee and internally displaced women, children and adolescents. As an advocacy organization, the Women’s Commission is dedicated to bringing about systemic changes that lead to greater respect for the rights of uprooted women, children and adolescents. The organization strives to effect policy change with broad, worldwide impact.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Women’s Commission is completing a 300+ page livelihoods handbook for field practitioners. The Consultant will re-write and consolidate the draft chapters; re-work the chapters into consistent language and tone; copy edit and format. The expectation is that the consultant will take a solid draft and turn it into a final, polished document.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• In consultation with Program Director and Program Officer, edit draft
livelihood handbook chapters for content and re-write as necessary. Conduct
follow-up research with key operating agencies, practitioner associations,
and academics on key findings and recommendations.
• Participate in a “workshopping” conference with Livelihoods
Advisory Committee in which a review of the final product is conducted.
• Edit chapters for consistency, tone, voice, and clarity
• Fact check references and footnotes, as necessary
• Provide guidance on layout and formatting
• Produce final document ready for printing
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in liberal arts, social
sciences, or economics.
• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Solid understanding of economic issues and livelihood programming.
• A proven interest and commitment to humanitarian and human rights
issues.
• Minimum of 5 years previous relevant work experience with displaced
populations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to successfully
interact with a variety of people in writing, in person and via telephone.
• Solid organizational skills: the ability to work proactively and meet
deadlines.
• Flexible work attitude: the ability to work productively and independently.
