BACKGROUND:
The Women’s Commission for Refugee Women and Children works to improve the lives and protect the rights of refugee and internally displaced women, children and adolescents. The organization strives to effect policy change with broad, worldwide impact.
The Women’s Commission is legally part of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. The Women’s Commission raises its own funds and receives no direct financial support from the IRC.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Development Prospect Researcher will be part of a three-member Development team that is responsible for securing financial support from foundation, government, corporate and individual donors to support and expand the programs of the Women’s Commission. The Researcher will identify, analyze and profile new sources of support for the Women’s Commission and will produce comprehensive briefing reports based upon prospect research. The Researcher will also maintain a calendar of critical development deadlines for grant proposals and reports. The Researcher will also participate in cultivation and stewardship strategic planning and will be responsible for writing some donor correspondence and reports. S/he will report directly to the Director of Development.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Produce in-depth prospect research of corporations, foundations and
individuals and prepare concise analytical reports.
• Conduct analytical research on corporate, foundation and individual
philanthropy and prepare reports and briefing notes in support of fundraising
efforts.
• Strategize with Development team, using the results of wealth screening
data, to maximize the use of that data in fundraising efforts; i.e. identification,
cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
• Play a key role in researching and identifying annual fund donors
who can be upgraded to a major gift level.
• Maintain calendar of departmental deadlines and notify appropriate
staff of pending deadlines.
• Maintain a record of proposals submitted, pending and awards received.
• Generate analyses of revenue trends.
• Draft donor communications, acknowledgement letters and informational
materials to donors as needed.
• Draft grant reports to foundations and other donors as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree; minimum of five years experience in fundraising
environment, with three years of prospect research;
• Possess excellent writing and communication skills;
• Have strong working knowledge of fundraising databases;
• Possess excellent organizational skills and ability to create efficient
work systems;
• Be able to plan for and manage multiple projects while working in
a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment with strict deadlines;
• Have a flexible work attitude with the ability to work productively
and independently in a team environment;.
• Demonstrated interest in international/humanitarian issues.
