Marianne Shearer, Director of Development
Marianne Shearer joined the Women's Commission as Director
of Development in December 2007. She previously worked at Doctors Without
Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) as Director of Corporate and Foundation
Relations. She held the same position at Fordham University, where she raised
funds for eleven divisions of the university, including an initiative that
took her to China for corporate support of a joint law/business program. Prior
to her work in development, Marianne and her husband founded an award-winning
custom publishing firm, Image Partners, which produces magazines, annual reports
and newsletters for non-profits and Fortune 500 companies. Marianne also spent
10 years in admissions at Columbia University, first as an Assistant Director
at the College and then as Associate Director of Admissions at the Graduate
School of Journalism. She taught Freshman Composition and English Literature
at the maximum security prison for women in Bedford Hills, NY and also volunteered
as a child advocate for children whose mothers were incarcerated. Marianne
received her B.A. from Kirkland College and her Master’s degree from
Columbia University.
