Claudine Haenni, Geneva Liaison
After graduating from the University of Geneva with a degree in law, Claudine
Haenni Dale worked for the International Committee of the Red Cross,
both in Latin America as a delegate and in headquarters for 9 years. She subsequently
left the ICRC to become the Secretary General of the Association for the Prevention
of Torture, an international human rights NGO based in Geneva, Switzerland,
which was the primary motor behind the European Convention for the Prevention
of Torture and the UN Optional Protocol on the Prevention of Torture, and
Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. She left the APT
in 2001 and was hired by the Swiss Foreign Ministry as a policy advisor for
human rights and humanitarian affairs. From 2005 to 2007, she worked at the
UN headquarters in New York as an Advisor to the Representative of the Secretary
General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons. In August 2007,
she returned to Geneva where she lives with her husband, Keith Dale, and their
two dogs (to say nothing of the cat). She currently is an independent Advisor
on human rights and humanitarian policy issues and also represents the Women’s
Commission for Women Refugees and Children in Geneva. She is also a Visiting
Fellow of the Law School of the University of Bristol and Vice-President of
Enfants du Monde, a development agency based in Geneva.
Claudine Haenni Dale is a member of Holy Trinity Church and is studying to
become a lay reader.
